Linking your accounts

You can link your page to your profiles on the social platforms we support. A free spot gets 1 link; an upgraded one gets up to 5. The list of platforms is shown when you add a link, and we can add to it or remove from it at any time.

You give us your username, not a web address.We build the link ourselves from the platform's own address. There is no box anywhere on the site for a URL of your own.

You cannot link to your own website, a blog, a shop, or any other domain — only to a supported platform. That is deliberate. An open link field on a public wall of faces is a way to point traffic at scams, malware and adult sites from under our name, and once it is possible we would be policing it forever. A fixed list is one we can stand behind. For the same reason, links are not allowed in your display name, your one-line statement, your location or your bio.

Your profile is yours. We do not review what is on it, we do not endorse it, and we are not responsible for it. We can remove a link from your page if the account it points at breaks our rules — impersonation, adult content, scams or harassment — and if we drop support for a platform, links to it stop showing.

When your face can appear in something we post

We post about the wall from our own accounts: routine posts about the site, no more than 3 a day, plus milestones as the wall fills, notable numbers being claimed, and contest news. Most of that is about numbers rather than people.

Two kinds of post can contain a member's photo — a notable number being claimed, and a contest winner. Before your face is in one, all four of these must be true:

• Your photo passed the upload check.
• You have not turned promotional use off.
• The wording you agreed to when you uploaded actually mentioned promotional use.
• You have not hidden your display name.

The third one matters if you have been here a while: if you uploaded under older wording that said nothing about promotion, this is off for you by default and stays off until you turn it on. The detail is on photos, consent and retention.

You can turn promotional use off at any time in your account, and it takes effect from that moment. We cannot un-publish something already posted, and neither can we remove copies other people have shared, but we will not use your photo again. If you want a specific post taken down, email support@1in1m.com and we will remove it.

We never sell your photo, and we never hand it to an advertiser to use in theirs.

When you share your own spot

The share buttons add a tag to the link so that we know who to credit if a visit or a purchase follows. What that is worth is set out on contests, gifts and promotions.

A shared link produces a preview card — your number, your photo, and whichever of your page fields you have set to public. The platform you posted to builds and caches that card, so once it is on a timeline we can neither see it nor take it down. If you later hide a field, change your photo or release the spot, a card already posted somewhere can keep showing the old version for a while. That is worth knowing before you make something public.

Rules for talking about 1in1m

Post about your spot as much as you like. What you may not do:

• Present yourself as 1in1m, speak for us, or use our name or look in a way that suggests we run your account or endorse you.
• Run, buy or arrange automated clicking, bot traffic or click farms — and do not offer to sell clicks, rank or leaderboard position to anybody else.
• Use somebody else's face, name or personal details to promote your spot, or to pressure them into clicking.
• Harass another member, on the site or off it, over anything to do with the wall.

If we have given you something, say so. If we gifted you a spot, paid you, or agreed any kind of partnership, disclose it clearly when you post about us — that is what advertising rules and the platforms themselves require, and we will ask you to correct a post that does not.

Breaking these rules can cost you your spot, and a spot taken back for a breach is not refunded.

If you see something

• Something on the wall — use the report button on that spot. It works without an account.
• Something we posted, including any post with your face in it — email support@1in1m.com. That is the fastest way to get it taken down.
• An account pretending to be 1in1m — tell us at the same address, and report it to the platform.
